Farewell Kingsland

Well, tommorow I leave for the frozen north, and what better final flag friday here than to show a few landmark flags I will miss driving by every day. First is this pair, the foreground one at Kingsland Park and the tall one at the police station.

I always love to see a little patriotism on my way to work in the morning. I do hope I can find some in the liberal north!

Florida's Vietnam Vets

Today's Flag friday features pictures of the Florida State Vietnam Vets Memorial, across the street from the Capital building.

This is one of my favorite memorials.

Ok, so its not a flag, but I think it fits the spirit of Flag Friday. This is the Kingsland watertower (one of several, actually.) I saw a photographic oppurtunity and I took it! Mwah ha ha!!!

Ok, so I stole this photo from the wife. It is the entrance to South Carolina from Georgia on 95. This setup makes it quite obvious that the residents of the Palmetto State have very strong pride in thei state's history and traditions.

Star and Bars

The large Confederate Stars and Bars flag flies over Fort Pulaski in Savannah, GA. The Stars and Bars was the first official flag of the Confederacy, and the only official Confederate flag to fly over the fort.

A group of international flags fly over land they once fought for at Tybee Island. From left to right the Spanish, French, Pirate, US, British, Confederate, and Georgia flags.

The British flag flies over the town it once created at Fort Frederica, Georgia.

An International place

Here the US, Mexican, and Arizona flags fly over the Sonoran Desert Museum near Tuscon, representing the desert that the countries share.

A place of refuge

These flags, on display at the Okefenokee Swamp visitor center, were two of many flags, one for each National Wildlife Refuge. They flew during the NWR system's 100th anniversary on March 13, 2003 at Sebastian Inlet, Florida near the first Wildlife Refuge, Pelican Island.
